AQUA8 - Beryl var. Aquamarine (etched)
$ 239.00 (=~ AUS$ 371.15)
Itatia Mine, Minas Gerais, Brazil
small cabinet - 6.5 x 5.0 x 3.0 cm

This beautiful Aquamarine was naturally etched by acids occuring deep in the Earth during, or after the original Beryl crystal formed. It has hundreds of "crystal faces," due to the etching phenomenon. It conjures images of icebergs and glaciers. It came out of a "stash," from the Hawthorneden inventory we purchased several years ago. It has no damage. It weighs 87 grams.

This crystal was "hiding," in a gem rough parcel. I think the owner overlooked the termination. This is a relatively new location. This crystal is a stunner, with excellent color and unparalleled gem clarity. I can mount on a custom acrylic base if desired. no damage.

TANZANITE3 - Zoisite Var. Tanzanite
$ 195.00 (=~ AUS$ 302.82) NET
Arusha, Merelani, Tanzania
thumbnail - 1.3 x .9 x .6 cm

Tanzanite is a gem form of zoisite, found only in the Arusha region of Tanzania. Mining is very deep, as gemstones easily go for $250 - $1000+ per carat. Crystals are also produced, of varying quality given largely that anything with a gemmy area within it gets cut. Also most are dinged, so getting pristine specimens is very difficult. Most pieces are heat treated, which mimics the natural geology that gives the crystals that amazing blue-purple color. This well formed, gemmy crystal has a natural bluish-purple color, with a tinge of yellow in its base (which shows it hasn't been heated after mining). It is a wedge shaped (looks like a front tooth actually), and weighs 6.40 carats.

TANZANITE5 - Zoisite Var. Tanzanite
$ 265.00 (=~ AUS$ 411.53)
Arusha, Merelani, Tanzania
thumbnail - 2.3 x 1.4 x .8 cm

Tanzanite is a gem form of zoisite, found only in the Arusha region of Tanzania. Mining is very deep, as gemstones easily go for $250 - $1000+ per carat. Crystals are also produced, of varying quality given largely that anything with a gemmy area within it gets cut. Also most are dinged, so getting pristine specimens is very difficult. Most pieces are heat treated, which mimics the natural geology that gives the crystals that amazing blue-purple color.

This crystal is an amazing contrast of black graphite and yellow Tanzanite. It is a natural color of Tanzanite (if heated it would turn pale blue). It is large at nearly an inch tall, it weighs 20.50 carats.

Overall in great condition, there is some very minor scuffing along a back edge (visible under microspope), not eye-catching.

$ 135.00 (=~ AUS$ 209.65)
Jeffrey Mine, Asbestos, Quebec, Canada
thumbnail - 2.2 x 1.7 x 1.1 cm

Beautiful cluster of bright, gemmy Hessonite garnets. Production has been sporadic at best, with a few small pockets found with hand tools in the last 3 years, otherwise there's been nothing since the 1980's. This piece is super bright, the color is slightly lighter in person. No damage.

ADAMITE6 - Adamite on Limonite
$ 195.00 (=~ AUS$ 302.82)
Ojuela Mine, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico
cabinet - 11 x 7 x 5.5 cm

There are layers of horizontal Limonite "stacked," on itself, with yellow Adamite crystals "inhabiting," the space between each layer. Some are exending out, while most are tucked away inside. There are layers of micro-adamites forming a druzy layer on some layers of Limonite. What's also cool is this piece fluoresces like mad, turning a neon green under long wave ultraviolet light. This piece was mined in the autumn of 2008, when a prolonged drought made the water level within the Ojuela mine drop to expose the Adamite level. These levels had faced flooding since the late 1970's. Since then, these same levels have not been reached and production has been virtually nil. There is a partial Adamite crystal in the middle of the piece, and one ofn the far side (let's say 32 intact and two partials). Quite interesting for its layered characteristics.

$ 235.00 (=~ AUS$ 364.94)
Lavra da Ilha Pegmatite, Taquaral, Itinga, Aracuai, Minas Gerais, Brazil
small cabinet - 5.1 x 5 x 2.3 cm

This Rose quartz is very bright,its lustre makes you think it's been sprayed with silicon (it has not). It has a great, rich pink color and good crystallization. It's rather translucent, and the color is better in person than the pics. Fine condition with a small flat section of contact in the upper left that is (not damaged).
