APOPHYLLITE2 - Apophyllite with Stilbite
$ 375.00 (=~ ¥ 55356.94) SOLD NET
Poonah District, Maharashtra, India
small cabinet - 7.5 x 6 x 6 cm

This piece was found around 1989. The mine in Poonah became famous for producing emerald green Apophyllites. Apparently the mine was terrible for the brown basalt or "road rock," it was being mined for. The basalt was porous and of little value. the Apophyllites mined there were exceptionally valuable, unfortunately the mine was not operating for very long and closed around 20 years ago. Housing was constructed on the mine and it won't be re-opened anytime soon. In this region, most interesting Apophyllites are found when villagers dig wells, and encounter pockets of zeolites. This piece showcases two long green crystals that rest on one another and are aesthetically sprinkled with bright white Stilbite crystals. It's in great shape. The tallest Apophyllite crystal has a very slight flat termination, the lower one is needle sharp. It comes mounted on an acrylic base.
