AGATE1 - Laguna Agate Pair
$ 115.00 SOLD
Ojo Laguna, Ahumada, Chihuahua, Mexico
small cabinet - 8 x 3.5 x 2 cm

I got this pair from an old collection on the west coast. We had them re-polished, and this is the last one from the collection. It exhibits chatoyant layers of Mauve, and yellow with a hint of red. They are each at least 2 cm thick, these agates are sought after as the location has been closed for some time.

TOURM18 - Tourmaline Var. Rubellite w/ Lepidolite
$ 845.00 SOLD NET
Himalaya Mine, Mesa Grande, San Diego County, California
cabinet - 10.5 x 3.5 x 3.5 cm

This is a rare, affordable large tourmaline from San Diego. It has a great, deep reddish-pink color that is so distinctive of the Himalaya mine (notably pink, not brown at all), with purple Lepidolite crystals hanging on the side. The termination is good, and partly covered with Lepidolite and a little feldspar. This crystal was mined by Bill Larson, who owned the mine for many years. It's in good condition, without any dings (there's a small spot where some Lepidolite had detached, revealing a shiny undersurface, but that's not damage) This crystal weighs a substantial 239 grams! It fills up your hand, as it is 4 inches long and weighs half a pound!!

$ 875.00 SOLD NET
Himalaya Mine, Mesa Grande, San Diego County, California

This attractive Tourmaline exemplifies the best of the Himalaya Mine. It has a pristine, lustrous green termination. The green is balanced by pink in the bottom half. As if for good measure it has a white florets of Clevelandite that nearly encompasses its perimeter. Where the Clevelandite doesn't cover, are Lepidolite crystals. This crystal was mined by Bill Larson, prior to 1998 who owned the mine for many years.
It weighs 68.5 grams. It's in great condition with no visible damage.

TOURM17 - Tourmaline Var. Elbaite ("watermelon")
$ 475.00 SOLD NET
Sapo Mine, Goibiera, Minas Gerais, Brazil
miniature - 4.7 x 2.2 x 2.2 cm

The Sapo mine is one of the most famous Tourmaline Mines in Brazil. In the late nineties, the tri-colored blue cap tourmaline pocket was found (blue caps, then yellow then red). Other pockets were found over the years, and this tourmaline was most likely found from 1999 - 2002. It has a forest - teal green color, with a light yellow band and a red core. It is considered watermelon tourmaline given its red center with green exterior. Watermelon Tourmaline is often cut into slices and sold for between $3 to $5 per carat. This crystal weighs 44 grams (220 carats). It's in great condition without any dings or visible damage, (very uncommon for Sapo tourmaline). It has contact on one face, (seen in the fourth pic) where another tourmaline grew up against it (a common occurrence, and not damage).

miniature - 4 x 2.5 x 2.3 cm

This striking miniature specimen exhibits a crimson red beryl crystal perched on rhyolite. The beautifully proportioned red beryl measures 1.5 cm long by .5 cm wide. The mines that produce this rare beryl have been either closed or in very minimal production for the last ten years or more. Often referred to as a "red emerald," there are far fewer of these in existence than their green counterparts. Its in pristine condition, with no dings or damage to the crystal.

$ 275.00 SOLD
Poudrette quarry, Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada
miniature - 4.5 x 4 x 2.6 cm

This is a Large, aesthetic Serandite! It has excellent color. The primary crystal is 4 cm long by 2.5 cm wide. It's in fine condition, no dings, perhaps a slight "peel," on the lower side of the main crystal on the backside, but does not detract at all. This comes originally from the now closed Mont Saint-Hilaire region.

RHODOCHROSITE1 - Rhodochrosite on matrix
$ 595.00 SOLD
Uchucchacua Mine, Oyon Prov., Lima Dept., Peru
cabinet - 13 x 7 x 6 cm

This Rhodo is noteworthy for the intense scarlet color and clarity of the larger crystals. when you look at it, you think "that's facet grade!" The primary crystals are pristine. There are some side crystals that have some contact damage on the far right side, but they are minor crystals compared to the cherry red two big ones. The largest crystal measures 1.2 cm long by .9 cm wide.  The piece weighs over 1 1/2 pounds. It comes from a mining area that is not producing.

QUARTZ17 - Quartz
$ 495.00 SOLD NET
Mount Ida, Hot Springs, Arkansas
thumbnail - 13.5 x 12 x 10 cm

I meet with several of the best miners of Arkansas Quartz several times per year. This piece is by far one of the best I've seen in years. It is a "burr," Quartz, which just means the Quartz is growing in a 360 degree fashion around a sandstone matrix. What makes this stand out is the largest crystal is a pristine double terminated crystal measuring over 11 cm (+4 1/4 inches). It also has penetrating crystals inside the center that adds significant character and depth. There are dozens more crystals, the second largest is over 8 cm (over 3 inches), all the points are in great condition without dings (one near the bottom out of about 35 got scuffed). There are two spots where you can see the matrix from where it was attached to the host rock.

It displays nicely and weighs nearly 2 pounds (almost 900 grams).

EPIDOTE1 - Epidote
$ 85.00 SOLD
Capelinha, Minas Gerais, Brazil
small cabinet - 8.5 x 4 x 4 cm

This struck me as a cool example of epidote from Brazil. This deposit produced well about 8 years ago. It is very bright and green for Epidote (It is often dull or dark). It is about 8 interconnected crystals. About half are terminated. It is easily displayed in several positions.

EPIDOTE2 - Epidote with Quartz
$ 65.00 SOLD
Capelinha, Minas Gerais, Brazil
small cabinet - 5.3 x 3.7 x 2.7 cm

This is an attractive cluster of 2 double terminated Quartz crystals, with several epidotes, the largest being double terminated. One Quartz is quite clear with striking inclusions, the other is cloudy (interesting contrast). It's in great shape for such a complex piece, there is some slight dulling to the clear Quartz terminations, but you have to look hard to see it. Overall it is better in person.
