TOURM40 - Tourmaline Var. Indicolite
$ 935.00 SOLD NET
New Santa Rosa Mine, Minas Gerais, Brazil
small cabinet - 6.5 x 1.5 x 1.0 cm

This beautiful Tourmaline twin was mined recently at the Santa Rosa Mine in Brazil. It has a rich blue color with a twinge of greenish-blue that overall is a distinctive hue for Santa Rosa. Both terminations are bright and sharp. The overall piece is bright and colorful .Production of Tourmaline in Brazil has been dismal over the last three+ years, I felt lucky to be able to get ahold of this piece, given I'm good friends with the mine owner. This piece is over 2.5 inches long and has a wonderful proportion of length to width. No damage. Mounted on a custom acrylic base.

FLUORITE9 - Fluorite with Barite
$ 495.00 SOLD
Mahoning Mine #1, Cave-In-Rock, Illinois
miniature - 4.8 x 4.8 x 3.6 cm

A good, Illinois blue fluorite is a "must-have," for a good mineral collection. This is a fine example, with a gemmy blue depth reminiscient of a glacier, and with a purplish, pyramidal phantom-core visible deep inside it. It is neatly covered with snow white Barite that gives a pleasant contrast to the gemmy blue color. There's no damage on the top corner, or the right or back edges. The left corner has a small cleavage, it doesn't detract. I got this out of Les Tolonen's collection, We were able to acquire 100 flats from him representing his 100 trips to the cave-in-rock district spanning 35 years of his doing business in the area while it was in production.

TANZANITE2 - Zoisite Var. Tanzanite
$ 535.00 SOLD
Arusha, Merelani, Tanzania
thumbnail - 1.6 x 1.1 x .8 cm

Tanzanite is a gem form of zoisite, found only in the Arusha region of Tanzania. Mining is very deep, as gemstones easily go for $250 - $1000+ per carat. Crystals are also produced, of varying quality given largely that anything with a gemmy area within it gets cut. Also most are dinged, so getting pristine specimens is very difficult. Most pieces are heat treated, which mimics the natural geology that gives the crystals that amazing blue-purple color. This is a spectacular Tanzanite crystal. It has great color, It's very gemmy and Bright. It  exhibits a large internally clean area. It has a bluish-purple color, with a beautiful termination, and no damage. It comes mounted on a custom acryic base. It weighs 13.49 carats.

Most pieces are heat treated, which mimics the natural geology that gives the crystals that amazing blue-purple color. This well formed, gemmy crystal has a natural bluish-purple color, with a tinge of yellow in its base (which shows it hasn't been heated after mining). It is a wedge shaped (looks like a front tooth actually), and weighs 6.40 carats.

This crystal is an amazing contrast of black graphite and yellow Tanzanite. It is a natural color of Tanzanite (if heated it would turn pale blue). It is large at nearly an inch tall, it weighs 20.50 carats.

Overall in great condition, there is some very minor scuffing along a back edge (visible under microspope), not eye-catching.

QUARTZ46 - Quartz Var. Amethyst Scepter w/ Anatase
$ 65.00 SOLD
Betafo, Madagascar
miniature - 4.2 x 1.3 x 1.1 cm

This was a better piece from a small pocket of Quartz found 5 years ago in Madagascar. It is a Scepter with a purple hue to it, but what makes it unusual are several small octohedral Anatase crystals attached to it's shaft. It's the only occurence of Anatase on Quartz I've encountered from Madagascar.

$ 75.00 SOLD
Betafo, Madagascar
miniature - 4.2 x 1.2 x .8 cm

Here's a great example of a small pocket of weird phantom quartz we got 6 years ago. The quartz is clear and bright and really sets off the internal prismatic phantom. It has crystallization on its other termination, and no damage.

EFFENBERGERITE1 - Effenbergerite in Sugilite
$ 495.00 SOLD
Wessels Mine, Hotazel, Kalahari manganese fields, Northern Cape Province, Republic of South Africa
small cabinet - 5.7 x 4.2 x 3.8 cm

A dozen or more Effenbergerites were a new find at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show in 2012. Prior to this find, large examples were micromounts. This piece is a huge example of this rare Barium copper Silicate, occuring in Sugilite. It's unusual to have such a rare mineral also have such a striking, attractive color.  It weighs 66 grams (about 2 ozs).
