Larimar aka Blue Pectolite from Filipinas Larimar Mine, Los Checheses, Sierra de Barouco, Barahona Province, Dominican Republic [db_pics/pics/larimar1a.jpg] Larimar aka Blue Pectolite from Filipinas Larimar Mine, Los Checheses, Sierra de Barouco, Barahona Province, Dominican Republic [db_pics/pics/larimar1b.jpg]

LARIMAR1 - Larimar aka Blue Pectolite
$ 245.00 SOLD
Filipinas Larimar Mine, Los Checheses, Sierra de Barouco, Barahona Province, Dominican Republic
cabinet - 9.8 x 7 x 1 cms

Larimar aka Blue Pectolite, is similar to petrified wood. It is only found in the Dominican Republic, and shares its distinctive color with the Caribean ocean. This piece is cutting rough quality, and a slab of this quality is not easily found on the market as many cabs could be cut from it, and made into jewelry. it weighs 92 grams. I like it as a specimen, since the color of this quality is so distinctive and attractive.

FLUORITE1 - Fluorite with Chalcopyrite
$ 350.00 SOLD
Denton Mine, Cave-in-rock, Illinois
cabinet - 11 x 6.5 x 3.5 cm

This fluorite is crystallized on both sides. It exhibits a purple-blue color with a slight yellow core, and a sprinkling of Chalcopyrites on its surface. It's in good condition with only two very minor dings. It comes from the Les Tolonen collection. We purchased his high grade stash of Illinois fluorites, that took him over 30 years to accumulate. Pic #3 shows it's back side (also quite attractive).

Cuproadamite in matrix from Tsumeb Mine, Namibia [db_pics/pics/cupro2a.jpg] Cuproadamite in matrix from Tsumeb Mine, Namibia [db_pics/pics/cupro2b.jpg]

CUPRO2 - Cuproadamite in matrix
SOLD
Tsumeb Mine, Namibia
small cabinet - 5.1 x 4.2 x 4.2 cm

Here is a neat little "pocket," of gem copper-bearing Adamite crystals within matrix. The matrix is a heavy dark stone streaked with green veins that lead to the cavern of needle like Adamite crystals. I picked this up from Gene Meiran's colleciton (it had no label at the time). The fact that it's from Tsumeb, and that the little cave has such bright, richly colored crystals is enticing. The pocket is 2 x 1.8 cms.

FLUORITE2 - Fluorite
$ 265.00 SOLD
Mahoning Mine #1, Cave-In-Rock, Illinois
miniature - 4.3 x 3.3 x 2.7 cm

I love this classic color from Illinois. Note the purple phantom. It's in good condition, it's gemmy so it looks richer in lower light. I included the second pic, where you can see the deep color saturation down the length of the crystal. This piece comes from the Les Tolonen collection. We purchased his high grade stash of Illinois fluorites, that took him over 30 years to accumulate. All the mines closed around 1994. If you don't have a blue Illinois fluorite, grab this one as they are few and far between!

Apatite from Mercado Mine, Durango, Mexico [db_pics/pics/apatite2a.jpg] Apatite from Mercado Mine, Durango, Mexico [db_pics/pics/apatite2b.jpg] Apatite from Mercado Mine, Durango, Mexico [db_pics/pics/apatite2c.jpg]

APATITE2 - Apatite
$ 85.00 SOLD
Mercado Mine, Durango, Mexico
miniature - 3.5 x 2.6 x 1.7 cm

This apatite is found in the "market Mine," nearby the famous Ojuela mine nearby Durango, Mexico. I have been buying these crystals for over 12 years, and finding larger crystals in good condition is difficult, primarily because the crystals are not in their original matrix, as the deposit collapsed millions of years ago. Occasionally clusters are available, and they look like someone mixed up apatite crystals in cement and let it dry. This piece has great color, and internal clarity is good. It has some micro chipping along an edge or two, and the back side has a concoidal fracture along the back length (it blends right in). It weighs 29.8 grams.

LAPIS1 - Lapis Lazuli (hand polished)
$ 65.00 SOLD NET
Sar-e-Sang, Badakhshan Province, Afghanistan
thumbnail - 5.5 x 3.4 x 2.1 cm

This royal blue Lapis sculpture has fabulous color, excellent polish (done in Hong Kong, not in Afganistan), and the carving itself resembles a spinnaker sail. It weighs 82.7 grams. It has just enough gold pyrite, and a tiny bit of white marble to accentuate the intense blue that only comes from the best Lapis. This was one of hundreds that I recently bought, that exhibits the right combination of color, polish and shape. Set it on a shelf, or on your desk and enjoy its natural beauty.

PREHNITE2 - Prehnite
$ 75.00 SOLD
Merelani Mine, Lelatema Mountains, Arusha Region, Tanzania
miniature - 3.7 x 2.5 x 2.6 cm

This gemmy yellow Prehnite was found in the Tanzanite mines of Tanzania. It has beautiful "lemon" color. The crystals 'reach out,' into space, whereas typically these Prehnites are boytroidal. It has small little white spots where there is a secondary mineral like Quartz that grew along with the Prehnite. It weighs 22.4 grams.

AQUA3 - Beryl var. Aquamarine with Muscovite
$ 265.00 SOLD
Ping Wu, Sichuan Province, China
cabinet - 10.5 x 7 x 3.3 cm

This is an attractive specimen with a richer blue color to the aquas than shows up in the pics. The largest Aqua crystal is 2.5 x 2.5 x 1.2 cm. Beryl crystals from the Pin Wu area are almost always Tabular (flat). This is a fairly large example that displays nicely, especially with the large crystal on top. It's in fine condition with no visible dings to the Beryls.

Calcite from Hunan Province, China [db_pics/pics/calcite1a.jpg] Calcite from Hunan Province, China [db_pics/pics/calcite1b.jpg] Calcite from Hunan Province, China [db_pics/pics/calcite1c.jpg]

CALCITE1 - Calcite
$ 145.00 SOLD
Hunan Province, China
small cabinet - 5.3 x 3.2 x 1.7 cm

This is an attractive, clear Calcite from China. It has sharp crystal faces, leading to tight points without dings. It comes mounted on a 1 1/4" beveled acrylic base (not pictured). Most would look at it and think it is clear quartz, but on closer inspection the crystal terminations are obviously different.

ANDRADITE1 - Andradite (var. Demantoid Garnet)
$ 195.00 SOLD
Soghan, near Jiroft, Kerman Province, Iran
thumbnail - 2.8 x 2.4 x 2.3 cm

I remember seeing a few of these about 5 years ago, most of them were small (1/2 inch). I got this one out of a collection, and it is quite large for this location. The color is quite rich and green, and it comes mounted on an acrylic stand. The first pic is from the front, second is its left side, the third is from the top looking down, and the fourth one is its right side.
