TOURM48 - Tourmaline Var. Indicolite
$ 995.00 SOLD NET
Paprok, Nuristan, Afghanistan
small cabinet - 8 x 2.3 x 2 cm

Paprok does produce indicolite from time to time. This crystal was mined in the mid to late 1990's. It exhibits a rich blue color to its core. The termination is a light blue color with a simple termination on the primary crystal and complex termination on the integrated side crystal. The two crystals grew together and even bent together, there is an amazing "stripe"/fault line mid-crystal where a shift occurred in the growth line, and it slightly changed its direction of growth. It has a bright luster, and is without damage. It's priced below $12 per gram.

AZURITE7 - Azurite w/ Malachite
$ 275.00 NET
Milpillas Mine, Sonora, Mexico
miniature - 3 x 2.7 x 2.6 cm

Millpillas has produced some amazing crystals over the last 4 or 5 years. Word is that they are finished with the oxidation zone, and are not finding Azurites anymore. I got this piece through a trade. The crystals are sharp, the color is rich and the luster is bright. Also the crystals are pristine without damage, which is so difficult to find from this location. The Malachite jumps in contrast to the blue Azurite.

AQUA15 - Beryl Var. Aquamarine w/Fluorite and Muscovite
$ 11500.00 SOLD NET
Chumar, Bakhoor, above Sumayer, Nagar Dist., Gilgit/Baltistan, Pakistan
large cabinet - 23 x 16 x 10

This beautiful Aqua cluster came to me via an estate sale. It was mined in the late nineties, back when production was greater and quality was better. It's composed of dozens of individual ice blue aquas with silvery-gold muscovites in contrast. There are two pale to pinkish fluorite crystals along the left side. I really enjoy the variety of crystal size, ranging from 1 cm to 8 cm long. It exhibits a stunning lack of any damage, with the only exception being a rough upper left edge of a broad crystal, that is positioned on the very edge of the specimen. It displays several different ways, the rough edge is easily positioned so it is invisible. These large, gemmy Aqua specimens have become very scarce on the market. A dealer I showed this too who goes to Pakistan claimed pieces like this one are in Peshawar, with an asking price of $30,000 right now. It's a stunning piece.

TOURM47 - Tourmaline Var. Tri-color Elbaite "scepter"
$ 3500.00 SOLD NET
Pederneira Mine, Sao Jose da Safira, Minas Gerais, Brazil
small cabinet - 6.4 x 1 x 1

This gorgeous Tourmaline is so ideal, it's what everyone looks for in a tourmaline crystal. It's 99% facetable, so the crystal glows a beautiful shade of green and blue. It has a long slender length wtih a bright pink stem. This was part of Luis Menezes collection for years, he got it from Jon Das Mosas. The termination is trigonal and complex at the very tip, the body is pristine, even the stem is terminated. There is one face where the green part wraps around the pink stem where there is rough underside edge, instead of a re-healed edge. It's technically a tri-color double terminated scepter. It weighs 11.83 grams.

CUPRITE5 - Copper pseudomorph after Cuprite
$ 275.00 SOLD
Rubtsovsky Mine, Altai Krai, Siberia, Russia
thumbnail - 2.9 x 1.9 x 1.8

The cuprites from the Rubtsovskiy Mine in Russia are widely considered the best ever found. The Rubtsovskly Mine is an operating copper mine, and the oxidation zone has produced Cuprites, Azurites, native copper, silver, and iodine minerals like Miersite. I have been following the production for the last two years, to better understand how these are unique and what pieces stand out from "the crowd." About 95+% of the production have damage of some kind to a corner or edge. This is largely due to the miners who when extracting crystals from the kaolin clay zone (which protects the Cuprites), they drop them into their pockets, and they get dinged.

These two cuprite crystals have mostly been replaced by copper, but not entirely. It weighs 15.8 grams and is in excellent condition, no damage.

This is an all around good example of twinned inter-penetrating crystals. Good condition with a little contact at the base (where it attached), very slight rubbing to a corner (need a 10x loupe to see it). it weighs 23 grams.

This cluster of Cuprite crystals has a bright sheen.It's in good condition (one minor spot of rubbing), the back side exhibits both spongy silver and crystallized silver, which is quite unusual. The occurence of silver on cuprite is extrememly rare worldwide.

small cabinet - 7.9 x 5 x 3.2 cm

The Rubtsovsky mine has become well known for producing the best Cuprite crystals ever found. It has produced some fine copper crystals as well. This one is particularly unique as it has an incredible rainbow-like patina. It is one of two I have seen (out of thousands) from this mine that has such amazing colors. It braches out well and has no damage. 98 grams.

This crystal has outrageous color and clarity. It came from the first wave of the find about 6 years ago, and this quality was not equaled later in the production. It has a distinct deep orange color. It demonstrates the crystal form well with sharp defined faces. It has some micro chipping, but you really have to look for it. It weighs 14.2 grams.
